Twenty women in the heart of architecture

To conclude the programme of activities Architecture in the feminine, the Fondation
pour l’Architecture and the state secretary for Urbanism Emir Kir, have the
pleasure to present to you the exhibition Portraits Archi-Féminins, Twenty women
in the heart of architecture
, from 18 October until 31 December 2011.

Through the work of photographers Gaël Turine and Loïc Delvaulx you will
not only discover female architects, but also several other professions from
the world of architecture. Often, these are more associated with the male,
making a feminine renaming not at all easy: who hides behind professions like a
geometrical expert, a gilder, or an editor? A male or a female individual? In
any case, this is an exhibition that makes us see preconceived ideas in a
different light.

Apart from two women architects you will discover a mosaic maker, a
guilder, two  restorers/curators of
wall paintings, an art historian, a designer of stained glass windows, an
architecture lecturer, a site engineer, a geometric expert, an officer for
building permits, an architecture photographer, a researcher at IRPA/KIK (Royal
Institute for Cultural Heritage), a model maker, two interior architects, a
roofer, an editor and a guide, who are all female.

They are not only presented
by a photographic portrait, but also by a short text and an interview that
discloses their vision on Brussels and the ideal city  Together they show just as many views on
architecture and the image of the city as the various backgrounds the women
represent.

« Rendez-vous sur le quai » film documentary

In response to the portrait exhibition we show a documentary by Tülin
Özdemir, Rendez-vous sur le quai. The city of Brussels marches on the slow rhythm of a
boat on the water. Women’s voices express their ideal city opposed by male
voices which give a vision on their city. The roles are then reversed and
slowly a dialogue emerges from these testimonials.
